They will slowly drain their fuel into the vehicle's fuel tank if the vehicle's tank isn't full Each one can hold 10 blocks/buckets of fuel (lava or fuel from another mod), so 2 external tanks will double your flight time! The fuel gauge currently won't show fuel in these tanks, but you can see how full they are by looking at them.
